About Us Home

Brookside is a preschool and transitional kindergarten (TK) through second grade campus and was built in 1953. We are also home to the Head Start program. There is a school cafeteria and stage, which hosts our annual Winter Celebration, Student Talent Show, student recognition assemblies and a variety of other meetings and performances. We have 18 full-size general education classrooms, two special education rooms, and one speech and language classroom. Our marriage-family therapist has a classroom as does our school psychologist and our student behavior support counselor and behavioral aide. Brookside's Anne Hammond book room and art classroom are located in the west wing, near the library. Students visit the large and active Brookside library weekly, at recess, and for two book fairs per year. 

The main office is located in the front of the campus and is where families meet with our bilingual family liaison and health aide, in addition to secretaries and the principal.

The pavement is lined for basketball, four square, tether-ball, relays, and hopscotch. We have a student ball wall and a large variety of playground equipment (on two playgrounds) for students to climb and explore. All outdoor facilities and one classroom are used by our students and the PE teacher and PE aide including the ball field, soccer field and cafeteria, which are also used by the community for organized youth sports. 

Two classrooms are used by our reading specialist and highly trained para-educators to lead data-based reading intervention groups using the science of reading.

Our custodians, maintenance department, staff and students take good care of Brookside. Restrooms, classrooms, and all other buildings and facilities are clean and well-maintained. Community artists have worked with students through the years to add warmth and personality to our school. They designed colorful works of art, including a wildlife mural on the north side of the cafeteria, and a tile mosaic which our second graders helped to create!
